Our vision

Woman thinking

We envision...

A continuing expansion of the network-centric world to include embedded devices, towards the goal of ubiquitous connectivity to the Internet. One of the major driving forces for such connectivity will be the growing need for remote access to such devices for the purposes of maintenance, management, monitoring, configuration and control.

Market trends

Embedded equipment and appliances are everywhere: In offices, factory floors, hospitals, homes, automobiles and more. Today, most of these devices are not networked. Access to these devices is by close proximity.

Rapid adoption of Internet technologies as open standards, the proliferation of micro controllers and the falling cost of communications are presenting a significant opportunity to network many new intelligent embedded devices. The growth of these intelligent embedded devices is paralleled by the growth and popularity of the Internet. With the explosion of the Internet and the World Wide Web, intelligent embedded devices will emerge as "thin" servers on the Internet, capable of being remotely accessed from anywhere in the world at any time, using a ubiquitous, user-friendly, platform independent user interface – the Web browser. Independent market researchs indicates that this development will have a profound impact on the IT industry.

The 1960's brought us mainframes. The 1970's, minicomputers. The 1980's, personal computers, workstations and servers connected to local area networks. The 1990's brought the computers to the Internet. We see the next wave coming now for 2000 and beyond: Internet in every device.
